Minister Nilwona Nowlin

Rev. Nilwona Nowlin has over 25 years of experience serving and leading in the ministry and nonprofit sectors. She is a redemptive artist, which means she uses her creative abilities to move others toward redemption, restoration, and reconciliation, with the goal of helping individuals and communities experience God’s shalom (a state of wholeness where everything is as God intended).

Rev. Nilwona regularly incorporates her creative talents into her ministry communication, whether through speaking, teaching, preaching, writing, or visual art. She’s a frequent contributor to the Covenant Home Altar and the Covenant Companion, and has also written for Christianity Today, the CCDA (Christian Community Development Association), the Redbud Hyphen, and UMI (Urban Ministries). In addition to preaching, Rev. Nilwona has presented workshops for DYA (Duke Youth Academy), the CCDA, Christians for Biblical Equality (CBE), and other organizations. She also spoke at TEDx North Park University.

Rev. Nilwona has served on the leadership team of the Covenant Annual Meeting and the ECC’s African American Ministers Association (AAMA), has co-facilitated Sankofa journeys (for the ECC, North Park University, and the Midwest Conference of the ECC), and is one of the ECC's Qualified Assessors (QA) for the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI). She currently serves as the chair of the Governance Committee for the CCDA Board of Directors and is an associate editor at InterVarsity Press.

Rev. Nilwona holds a Master of Divinity and a Master of Arts in Christian Formation from North Park Theological Seminary and a Master of Nonprofit Administration from North Park University.

Rev. Nilwona lives in Chicago with her family, and her most cherished roles are daughter, sister, and aunty.
